10 Days Meditation Retreat 2010 (1-10 April)
The Ten days Easter Meditation Retreat was officially conducted from 1st-10th April at PMMC. It managed to attract a total of 15 Yogis including 7 men and 8 women. They had completed the ten days retreat on daily basis. In addition, there were 15 yogis who practiced the meditation during their spare time.
The centre was happy to see the Yogis to practice the meditation seriously throughout the retreat session. It was the best rewards to the effort by volunteers and donors who were keen to help and donate food to make the retreat a success.
There were chanting and Dhamma talks during the retreat. We welcome our Dhamma friends to participate in the session though you are unable to attend meditation as the yogis in future retreat. Most of us have beneficiated so much from the Dhamma Talk and we know it is something worth to bring home and share with friends from time to time.
The committee was thankful to all the volunteers and Dhamma friends for their support and help. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
Success of March Foodfair
We are pleased to announce that we made $840 from foodfair fundraising yesterday, it was such a successful one compare to last month foodfair, it is getting better each month.
Good to see a lot of new faces and support from the people from Melbourne. Thanks to u all your help and support for this event.
May u be well and happy,
The first retreat was successful
Our first meditation retreat was conducted successfully and there were an average of 12 Yogis attended the daily meditation.
The insight knowledge from Vipassana Meditation arises from observation from your clear and pure mind. It is not something to search for, but something that you need to experience at your own. The noting mind and the noting object are discussed in the teaching. Sayadaw has personally demonstrated both sitting meditation and walking meditation to ensure Yogis have proper practice and understanding.
We are very thankful to the Dhamma friends and donors in terms of food, requisites to the Sangha, and volunteering job throughout the retreat. Without their help and support, the 7-days retreat could never be so successful. SADHU! SADHU! SADHU!
We hope the Yogis will carry on their mindfulness in meditation practice from time to time. We welcome new and old Yogis in future retreat in 2010. Again, we share our gratitude to our Dhamma friends for the great support to the centre throughout the year. As Buddha said, “The one who holds and carries the Dhamma, always being protected by the Dhamma”.
The PMMC committee would take this opportunity to wish all the members and Dhamma friends of the centre- HAPPY NEW YEAR and fruitful year in 2010!

13 Basic Guidelines for Intensive Vipassana Meditation
- There is only one task to be done by the meditators, i.e, to practise with:
- respect and sincerity
- diligence
- heroic effort
- perseverance
- patience
- sustained continuous, moment-to-moment mindfulness from the time of waking up in the morning to the time of falling asleep at night.
- Meditators should do formal sitting and walking meditation.
- Meditators should keep alone and observe silence. Socialising is not encouraged at all.
- Meditators must refrain from talking.
- Meditators must keep reading and writing to an absolute minimum.
- Smoking is not allowed.
- Sleep should be limited complying to the program to improve meditation.
- Meditators must strictly adhere to the meditation teacher’s instructions and should not practise according to other meditation methods.
- Meditators must not get involved in any activities not related to intensive meditation, (e.g. listening to the radio or tapes, taking massage, taking photographs, collecting books, performing acupuncture, receiving visitors, cooking food, learning Burmese, English, Pali, engaging in political, business and social affairs.)
- Meditators must restrain their senses. They should act like a blind, deaf and dumb person.
- Meditators must perform all activities in slow motion like a sick person.
- There is no space for thinking, reflection, speculation, analyzing, or interpretations during intensive practice.
- Generally meditation is for people with a normal and stable mind. If a person is mentally not in shape to do intensive meditation practice, especially to conform to the strict discipline, then that person may not be admitted as a yogi.

Warm Welcome to Malaysian Dhamma Friends
12 days Dhamma Trip to Australia (4th to 15th October 2009)
Panditarama Melbourne Meditation Centre had received warm visit from Malaysian Dhamma friends on the 10th of October 2009 after their five days’ trip to Panditarama Sydney Meditation Centre, Australia. The group consisted of seven yogis, 4 male yogis and 3 female yogis including Sayalay Candawati for their 12 days Dhamma Trip visit to Australia.
The Malaysian group of Dhamma friends who came from Penang, Malaysia were representatives from Malaysian Buddhist Meditation Centre (MBMC) Friday Yogis and Mahindarama Monday Yogis with Brother Tay Chong Seng as the group leader. The centre was pleased to welcome the group and grateful for receiving the Kathina dana of RM75,000 (estimated AUD25,000) as a token of support to the Buddha Sasana (Dispensation) in Australia, especially for the Melbourne centre.
This Dhamma trip was indeed very meaningful that gave opportunities to the committee members of the centre to exchange ideas about Vipassana meditation and practices of the different centres within the network of Panditarama. We were surprised that one of our Malaysian Dhamma friends could communicate in Burmese.
We wish our Malaysian Group of Dhamma friends had gain good experience in Australia, by participating in this Kathina ceremony, listening to Dhamma talks and site-seeing in Melbourne.
It was a great honour to meet them. We received three boxes of Kathina robes and allowable requisites together with CDs regarding “Discourses on Vipassana Meditation” by Sayadaw U Pannathami. We look forward to have more of the same visits in future. We apologise for any shortcoming or inconvenience caused during their stay in the centre. May their support of ideas and Dana contribution boost the growth of the Buddha Sasana in Australia.
Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
